Database is the key factor of intelligent expressway construction
Nowadays, new technologies such as cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence are accelerating the digitalization of various industries, and based on these new technologies, expressways are also entering the stage of intelligent operation and service. Highway network, sense communication control network, green energy and other intelligent expressway infrastructure construction is directly related to whether business management, emergency response and toll management can be visual, mobile, intelligent and accurate.
As a key element, "data" is the blood cell that supplies oxygen to the "brain" of the intelligent expressway, and runs through the digitalization and intelligent transformation, so the management ability of "data" or information becomes the key ability of intelligent expressway.
Database is the circulatory system that supports the effective flow of "data" . Database and data management platform as the carrier of data, are not only the connector and bridge of the expressway, transmission network layer and basic information layer, but also the decisive factors of expressway digital capability.
The key features of the future data management platform must be distributed + scenario + independent. The comprehensive promotion and application of domestic database is not only the need for reducing cost and increasing efficiency and enhancing supply chain security, but also the need for future business development.

AntDB is one of the earliest independently developed database in China, which came into being at the beginning of the 21st century in response to the actual needs of the billing system of telecom carriers. It has been 15 years since 2008 when it was applied to the core system of telecom carriers. Intelligent expressway project of a province in southwest is the first project in the expressway industry that completed the cost reduction and efficiency upgrade of the clearing and settlement system.
The expressway clearing and settlement system of a province in southwest China is a comprehensive system for all the operating companies, competent units, participants and the public, etc. It is interfaced with roadside sensing equipment through the network to realize the whole business life cycle management of clearing and settlement from data collection, cleaning, conversion, verification, clearing and settlement, reconciliation and fund transfer.

In 2019, the relevant national ministries and commissions proposed to "abolish provincial toll stations on expressways within two years" to realize non-stop express toll collection, reduce congestion and facilitate the masses. In the face of policy changes, the provincial clearing and settlement system of expressway center needed to carry out a comprehensive upgrade, and strive to achieve the "unified standard, network operation, graded management, aggregated clearing" of network toll management within four months to meet the national network toll requirements.
Since May 2019, the province in southwest China has gradually abolished provincial expressway toll stations and gradually promoted ETC tolling, the mileage of this province has exceeded 8,000 km and the total number of ETC users in the province has exceeded 6 million, with the utilization rate of ETC for passenger vehicles at over 70%, and trucks at over 60%, so the volume of data also brought challenges to database selection.
The clearing and settlement business includes online transaction, data analysis, report output and other scenarios, with the characteristics of short time and super concurrency, which is a typical integrated scenario of transaction plus real-time analysis, and the commercial database used before has many problems in processing, such as huge business access leading to data processing backlog and no data caching mechanism.
By implementing AntDB, a distributed relational database, it not only met the demand for real-time and batch entry of all kinds of data, but also provided online query function to the outside, while taking into account the demand for all kinds of regular reporting functions, and realizing the unification of the data.
Since the system went online at the end of 2019, it has been running smoothly and efficiently for more than three years, processing more than 10 million gantry data and more than 1.3 million lane data average per day, with an active data volume of more than 85TB. Compared with the original four-node RAC, the performance has been improved by 15% and the cost has been saved by 80%, realizing a real sense of cost reduction and efficiency.
The upgrade of the clearing and settlement system of a provincial expressway in southwest China has enabled the expressway network toll collection company to have the integrated ability of clearing and settlement and account analysis, to realize the efficient clearing and settlement business, to ensure effective docking with the ministry-level system, other provincial systems and other business systems, to carry out timely and accurate clearing and settlement of tolls, to promote the healthy development of the road network toll collection business in the province, to set an example for the application of domestic database in the expressway industry, and to enhance confidence in the application of domestic technology in the industry.
